Bentley has released a video of its new Bentayga SUV, achieving a top speed of 301km/h in testing at Volkswagen’s Nardo test track (click the image above to watch).
The car in the video is powered by Volkswagen’s 6-liter W12 TSI engine, although the German company’s 4-liter twin-turbo V8 is also expected to figure in the SUV’s range.
Bentley says that the 5,998cc 6-liter twin-turbo in this installation is rated at 608ps and 900Nm torque, taking the 2.4 ton car from 0-100km/h in 4.1 seconds.
The emissions of 292g/km CO? are said to be possible with this engine thanks to Bentley’s variable displacement system, which shuts down half of the engine under defined conditions. Intake and exhaust valves, fuel injection and ignition are all shut down on defined cylinders, with the engine running as a six-cylinder for improved efficiency. Bentley is calling the unit the most fuel-efficient 12-cylinder in the luxury market.
A possible diesel option being considered by the luxury British carmaker is the 4.2-liter V8 diesel that features in the new Audi Q7. A plug-in hybrid electric version is expected in 2017.
