Volkswagen has announced the appointment of Dr Wolfgang Demmelbauer-Ebner as chief engineering officer for Volkswagen’s North American region. In this role, Demmelbauer-Ebner will oversee all product and development engineering in the North American Region.
“A key part of Volkswagen’s Transform 2025+ strategic plan relies on the major regions globally taking more responsibility for developing products custom-tailored to their local markets,” said Hinrich Woebcken, CEO of VW North America.
“Our North American engineering group will be essential in helping to reach our goals, and with Wolfgang we have someone on board with extensive experience in engineering world-class automotive products.”
Prior to joining Volkswagen Group of America, Demmelbauer-Ebner completed various international assignments at Volkswagen, Audi and Seat. He earned his PhD in mechanical engineering at the Technical University in Vienna, Austria.
“I am excited to take on the challenge of growing the engineering footprint of Volkswagen’s North American Region, building on the outstanding work of Matthias Erb,” said Demmelbauer-Ebner.
“With models such as the upcoming Volkswagen Atlas five-seater, we have more opportunities to demonstrate how VW engineering can draw on the worldwide best automotive engineering resources while satisfying the specific needs of North American owners.”
Demmelbauer-Ebner replaces Dr Matthias Erb, who was named as head of VW’s Holistic User Experience division at its headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany.
