BMW and Rimac Technology have announced a long-term partnership to co-develop and manufacture vehicle batteries. These batteries, says BMW, will be deployed in its vehicles in the second half of this decade.
BMW predicts that by 2030, half of global vehicle sales will be BEV and is looking to gain an edge over looming Chinese competition. It is hoping that Rimac, renowned for its high-performance EV powertrains, will help the German OEM stay ahead.
Meanwhile, Rimac, which to date has focused on niche, high-performance applications, is moving toward becoming a high-volume Tier 1 supplier – a goal that company founder and CEO Mate Rimac has already highlighted as a driving factor behind his company’s existing tie-up with Porsche.
Details on the exact nature of the collaboration will be announced at a later date.
