Sangwoo Cha, senior research engineer, Hyundai Motor Company, reviewed how the crankcase stress and bolt fastening load response under engine dynamo testing was measured using strain gauges at the Powertrain Testing Conference.
The presentation, which took place on day 1 of Engine Expo + The Powertrain Technology Show, looked into how the crankcase stress and bolt fastening load response were compared using finite-element method solutions that considered the engine dynamic loading. The presentation also discussed the good results that the testing showed.
“The results of the comparison of simulation and measurement and bolt load were correlated with the measurement results in engine test mode,” noted Cha. “Simulation results of the crankcase stress and bolt load were correlated with the measurement. The structure simulation procedure of the crankcase is judged reliable.”
“Next year we hope to announce the results of the correlation with the simulation results,” added Cha.
