Italian company Industrie Saleri has introduced its dual mode electromechanical water pump (EMP) at Engine Expo + The Powertrain Technology Show. The smart technology, which has been developed for a 12V system, combines the benefits of a mechanical pump with the benefits of electrical ones.
“The key with this water pump is that it can function both mechanically and electronically, with one or the other or both working at the same time depending on the conditions of the engine,” said Annalisa Reboldi, communications specialist, Industrie Saleri Italo.
The EMP is highly variable in terms of performance and power, with electronic actuation allowing speed control of the impeller over a broad timeframe. The EMP is able to operate in electrical mode for 95% of its life. While in mechanical mode it uses the driving power from the ICE to reach the extreme cooling capabilities needed for severe conditions during vehicle operation.
“By having this water pump you are able to save energy,” added Reboldi. “Now this is developed for a 12V system, but it depends on the customer’s requirement. We do have a 48V water pump available as well.”
