A memorandum of understanding (MoU) of strategic cooperation has been announced by Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited (CATL) and Daihatsu Motor (Daihatsu) for battery supply and battery technologies to encourage e-mobility in Japan.
Under the new agreement, CATL will provide a stable supply of electric vehicle batteries to compact passenger car company Daihatsu for use in its EVs.
Through the strategic cooperation, both CATL and Daihatsu aim to promote the application of advanced battery technologies which consist of cell-to-pack and BMS.
By using CATL’s advanced battery technology, the Japan-based vehicle manufacturer will have the ability to increase the production and performance of its affordable EVs in Japan and other emerging markets. Furthermore, the new cooperation will enable Daihatsu to speed up its transition to electrification production while achieving the company’s zero carbon aims.
The partnership is viewed as important for CATL’s global footprint as the company will be able to explore further forms of cooperation in Japan and Southeast Asia to promote e-mobility transition and carbon neutrality goals.
