Production of ZF’s CeTrax electric central drive system for bus applications will start in the third quarter of 2020 for local emission-free transport. It has been designed for buses and follows the “plug and drive” principle.
CeTrax can apparently be installed in vehicles that have been designed with a ‘conventional’ powertrain layout, and the system is ZF’s second electric drive for public transport after the AxTrax AVE portal axle. It will be manufactured in Friedrichshafen.
Dr Andreas Grossl, head of axle and transmission systems for buses at ZF, said one of the first applications of the new drivetrain will be with Polish manufacturer Solaris who has chosen CeTrax for its Urbino 15 LE electric model.
