As Morgan prepares for production of its all-electric EV3 vehicle to begin next year, the company has announced that it will collaborate with Frazer-Nash Energy Systems. The EV3 will feature an all-new architecture, incorporating components already proven on road vehicles as well as fast charging technology.
“The greatest challenge lies within introducing EV technology into our factory work flows, customer experience and supporting the dealer network in a robust and most importantly safe manner,” said Steve Morris, managing director at Morgan. “Frazer-Nash Energy Systems offers us every confidence in achieving this. This will result in Morgan’s first entrance to the world of EV being incredibly rewarding, but moreover sets the scene for many exciting future opportunities.”
In a company first, the British sports car developer will utilize composite panels in the EV3’s body construction. With a range of 190km, Morgan’s first fully-electric EV has been designed to offer the same driving experience as the petrol version. This is thanks to a 21KWh lithium battery encased within the tubular space frame chassis and a liquid-cooled 34.8kW motor driving the rear wheels.
First revealed in 2016, the EV3 is the company’s first production entrance into the world of all-electric propulsion, following the Plus E concept in 2012. Inspired by 1930s aero-engine race cars and classic motorcycles, the vehicle will go into production in Q3 in 2018 at Morgan’s Pickersleigh Road factory.
