Honda has unveiled a pair of new concept EVs – the Saloon and Space-Hub – at the CES show in Las Vegas and has stated that a model based on the Saloon should go on sale in the US in 2026.
To date, Honda’s pure-EV offerings have been limited. However, its Honda 0 Series looks set to change that, with models slated to be rolled out across global markets following the US launch.
The company’s stated intent is to buck the trend for bloated, oversized EV SUVs that are flooding the market. “The mobility we dream of is not an extension of the trend of ‘thick, heavy but smart’ EVs,” said Toshihiro Mibe, global CEO of Honda. “We will create a completely new value from zero based on thin, light and wise as the foundation for our new Honda 0 EV series to further advance the joy and freedom of mobility to the next level.”
The Saloon is the flagship model of the new range and will sit on a freshly developed EV platform; the Space-Hub could be best described as a fresh take on the minivan concept. Technical details are sparse but the new EV architecture will feature integrated EDUs and the company says it is focusing on improving efficiency and battery performance. The Honda 0 Series will feature “a high-density battery that offers ample range while minimizing battery size”.
Honda also hopes that future releases, due in the “late 2020s” will allow fast charging from 15-80% capacity in 10-15 minutes. The company is targeting battery pack degradation of 10% over 10 years.
