Nidec has announced plans to construct a factory for its E-Axle traction motor system in the city of Pinghu, Zhejiang Province, in China. The company expects the new site to play a pivotal role in achieving its 2030 sales target of RMB10tr (US$1.5tn). Since April 2019, Nidec has sold a total of more than 370,000 units of its E-Axle system.
The new factory – which will also produce E-Axle-related components such as inverters and gears – is to be Nidec’s fifth traction motor-related production site, and the fourth E-Axle assembly plant, in China.
This will allow Nidec to also operate the Pinghu facility as an EV-dedicated plant that consolidates the company’s component businesses, with a maximum annual production capacity of 1,000,000 units.
At full capacity, the 72,800m2 Pinghu site will deploy a workforce of approximately 2,500 people. Construction is planned to start in October this year, with production expected to commence in October 2023.
