Global component manufacturer Denso has agreed to supply Volvo with advanced i-ART pressure sensors. Designed to deliver optimal fuel injection control for diesel powertrains, the technology will be used in the Swedish OEMs Drive-E engines.
The unique design of the miniature pressure sensors – which monitor injection activity from within the structure of the injector itself – allows higher accuracy in fuel injection (monitoring the amount and timing of the process with 1/100,000 second precision).
Mike Sadler, assistant manager and technical specialist for Denso Sales UK, said, “Diesel remains a crucial element of the UK and global car industry, performing business-critical roles and facilitating the everyday lives of commuters everywhere.
“As the industry evolves, diesel technology needs to as well, and Denso is at the very forefront of making a greener and more efficient diesel engine a reality. It is one of the many frontiers in which Denso is a leading role, and we’ll continue to look toward a more environmentally friendly and efficient automotive landscape.”
Denso’s development efforts extend beyond diesel engines, with the company researching the production of advanced gasoline engines, electric systems and other fields in the automotive industry.
