Ford has introduced its plug-in hybrid technology-equipped Transit Custom. Combining the brand’s renowned 1-liter EcoBoost engine, a 13.6kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a 92.9kW e-motor, the PHEV offers pure electric driving range of up to 56km.
With the three-cylinder unit acting as a range extender, the PHEV Transit’s total driving range exceeds 500km. The hybrid system also ensures fuel efficiency of 2.5l/100km and CO2 emissions of 60g/km.
A net payload of 1,130kg and unchanged load volume of 6.0m3 are facilitated by packaging of the compact battery pack beneath the floor.
“Our customers want electrified vehicles, but we understand that they may have concerns about infrastructure and range,” said Ian Porter, chief program engineer, Transit Custom, Ford of Europe. “Our connected Transit Custom plug-in hybrid delivers productivity with no compromises, offering the capability to drive on zero-emission electric power with the freedom to make longer journeys.”
The charging port is located within the front bumper, enabling the PHEV Transit to be charged in 4.3 hours using a domestic 240V 10A power supply, or 2.7 hours using a commercial type-2 AC vehicle charger.
Additional electrical energy is captured through regenerative charging when the vehicle decelerates or brakes.
