Subaru has introduced its fifth generation Forester. Fitted with the new e-Boxer powertrain, theĀ Forester combines an electric motor with a 2-liter direct injection gasoline horizontally opposed boxer engine and symmetrical AWD.
A lithium-ion battery unit is mounted within the boot floor and allows pure-electric driving at speeds of up to 40km/h. Paired with an updated Lineartronic transmission, the Forester e-Boxer promises smooth, linear, acceleration and responsive torque.
The technology used in the e-Boxer powertrain design is arranged in a symmetrical layout. The electric motor assist and battery pack are aligned longitudinally with the heavy motor placed near the vehicleās center of gravity. The battery and other components are positioned above the rear axle, improving handling and achieving a balanced weight distribution.
