UK heat protection developer Zircotec has designed an all-new durable ceramic coating for the exhaust tailpipes on Aston Martin’s Red Arrows edition Vanquish S. The limited-run super car, of which only 10 have been made, is the latest high-performance vehicle to feature the company’s Ultimate Range coating technology.
“Zircotec is delighted to be associated with this project, which combines the visual and dynamic thrills of the latest limited-edition Aston Martin and the aviation legends of the Red Arrows,” said Graeme Barette, director at Zircotec. “The use of our ceramic coating not only provides an aesthetically attractive finish, but through advanced thermal management of exhaust temperatures, protects the custom Éclat red paint finish and expensive carbon fiber diffuser that encases the exhaust tips.”
The Ultimate Range coating, which has been specifically designed to withstand the heat generated by the exhaust tailpipes, will be applied using an automated process, which means a consistent finish. As well as resistance to flame and heat, the coating technology will ensure protection against corrosion, staining and weather damage.
With Zircotec looking to cater for larger volumes in the future – up to 100,000 parts a year – the company is now developing additional programs to increase production capabilities.
“The quad exhaust tips are a focal point of the rear of the car, so the finish has to be perfect not just when it leaves the factory but in 10 years time too,” added Barette. “The quality of coating on an A Class surface component has to be very high, particularly for a tailpipe, which is subjected to salt, moisture, stone chips and high temperatures. The proprietary way we apply the coating and our state-of-the-art automated process enable us to achieve this.”
