Amongst its various announcements at the 2017 Detroit Motorshow Ford unveiled its 2018MY F-150, which introduces an all-new, ‘downsized’ 3.3-liter V6 engine, with direct-injection. Ford states that the all-new V6 is expected to offer the same 282hp and 253lb-ft. of torque as the previous model’s standard 3.5-liter V6.
The range will also feature an all-new, second-generation 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine that utilizes dual port and direct injection technology, reduced internal friction and improved robustness – all for ‘improved’ levels of output, efficiency, quality and durability. Like the 3.5-liter EcoBoost, the 2.7-liter EcoBoost will be paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission for 2018. The F-150’s 5.0-liter V8 has also seen improvements for the 2018 year model, resulting in increased power and torque. The five liter is also paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission for the first time. The 2018 F-150 also adds an available all-new 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel engine, marking the first time ever that a diesel engine has been offered for F-150.
Ford is yet to elaborate on the diesel engine’s specification, but the company supplies both Jaguar Land Rover, and the PSA Group with a 3.0-liter ‘Lion’ V6, which features a 60° Vee angle, common rain injection with Piezo injectors, two variable geometry turbochargers and aluminium cylinder heads.
