German OEM Audi has revealed plans to expand its S6 engine line-up with the addition of a new TFSI twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6. The 2020 S6 will produce 450ps and 600Nm of torque.
Developed to produce a wider range of torque when combined with an electric compressor powered by the 48V MHEV system, the six-cylinder unit will push the S6 from 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds.
With a response time under 250ms, and a maximum speed of 70,000rpm, the first e-compressor offered by Audi in the US pre-empts turbo lag, enabling responsiveness and powerful acceleration.
The new turbocharged unit is paired with an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission that has been designed for the low-end torque of the V6, making it possible for the engine to consistently run near its ideal speed.
