BMW has begun testing its newly developed four-cylinder engine in the new 1 Series.
The all-new BMW M135i xDrive will feature the most powerful four-cylinder unit currently in the German OEM’s production with a 2-liter capacity and BMW TwinPower Turbo technology.
Developed to include technical solutions such as a reinforced crank drive, new pistons and con rods, a larger exhaust turbocharger and optimized fuel injection valves, the I4 powerplant promises to deliver a maximum output of 310ps.
The third-generation 1 Series is currently still undergoing extensive test drives at the BMW proving ground in Miramas, Southern France. The facility’s diverse handling tracks offer the optimal conditions for refining agility and dynamics. This was preceded by five years of intensive development work to the modern BMW front-wheel drive architecture.
