US OEM Ford has introduced its redesigned EcoSport SUV featuring an all-new 1.5-liter EcoBlue diesel engine. The refined engine will generate 125ps, is fitted with a new low-friction six-speed manual gearbox, and has been developed to deliver higher power alongside reduced CO2 emissions.
Equipped with the company’s Intelligent AWD system, the EcoSport’s Ecoblue engine will generate 300Nm of torque, which can be transferred between the front and back wheels in under 20ms. The refined unit includes, low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation combined with water-air charge cooling as well as an integrated intake manifold for optimized engine breathing.
Additionally the system has a low-inertia turbocharger for faster, more controllable turbo response and a high-pressure fuel injection system that Ford claims is more responsive, quieter and offers more precise fuel delivery. The OEMs 100ps option, combined with front-wheel drive and all-new six-speed manual gearbox, offers 4.1 l/100 km fuel efficiency and 107g/km CO2 emissions.
As well as the diesel options, the EcoSport can be fitted with the 140ps and 125ps variants of Ford’s 1.0-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine. The 140ps unit will produce 5.2 l/100km (54mpg) fuel efficiency and 119g/km of CO2. While the 125ps motor, which is bolted to a six-speed automatic gearbox, will generate 5.8 l/100km (48mpg) and 134g/km of CO2.
The 2018 EcoSport equipped with the 1.5-liter EcoBlue motor, which is the OEM’s first compact SUV to offer the Ford-Performance inspired ST-line styling, will hit the roads mid-2018.
