Kia has released details of the powertrains that will power its next-generation Sorento. At the heart of the Sorento – which will be the first SUV to be based on the Korean OEM’s new platform – will sit Kia’s Smartstream turbo hybrid powertrain.
The new powertrain comprises a 1.6-liter T-GDi engine, 44.2kW e-motor and 1.49kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack. The system will produce a combined total output of 230ps and 350Nm of torque.
Intelligent packaging of the new platform means the battery pack can be located beneath the passenger cell without impacting on cabin or luggage space.
Kia will also equip its Sorento with a new four-cylinder 2.2-liter Smartstream diesel engine, producing 202ps and 440Nm torque. This will be paired with a new 8-speed wet double-clutch transmission
