Maserati has presented the Levante GTS, which comes with a 550bhp 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8. The engine is a detuned version of the engine in the Levante Trofeo, which was introduced earlier this year.
The GTS joins the existing engine lineup of a gasoline 3-liter V6 with 350bhp or 430bhp; a diesel 3.0-liter V6; and the aforementioned range-topping Trofeo with 590bhp.
The new V8 engine is assembled by Ferrari in Maranello, Italy, and is derived from the 3.9-liter turbo in the 488 GTB and Portofino. It delivers its peak power at 6,250rpm, while peak torque of 538 lb-ft is available between 2,500rpm and 5,000rpm.
It comes as standard with Q4 all-wheel drive and an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox, which now gains a more intuitive gear selector, as the old version was much criticized.
