German OEM Porsche has unveiled its new 718 Cayman GT4. Equipped with a newly developed four-liter six-cylinder naturally aspirated boxer engine and a six-speed manual transmission, the mid-engined coupe will develop 420ps and 420Nm of torque between 5,000rpm and 6,800rpm.
The naturally aspirated engine is based on the same engine family as the turbo engines in the current 911 Carrera model series. The high-revving engine, which has a maximum engine speed of 8,000rpm, generates 35ps more than in the GT4 predecessor models.
This means that the coupe can break the 300km/h barrier, hitting a top speed of 304km/h and accelerating to 100km/h in 4.4 seconds from a standing start. The correlated fuel consumption of the mid-engine sports car is 10.9l/100 km according to the NEDC.
In addition, Piezo injectors are used for direct fuel injection for the first time ever in a high-revving engine. The system splits each injection process into up to five individual injections. Supporting a complete combustion process. A variable intake system with two resonance valves ensures optimum gas exchange in the cylinders.
