Volkswagen has expanded its T-Cross range with the addition of a 1.6-liter TDI powerplant, increasing the compact SUV’s engine options to three.
With the turbodiesel unit, the T-Cross will output 4.4l/100km. The 95ps four-cylinder 1.6-liter engine also has the highest torque peak available for the T-Cross, developing 250Nm across a 1500rpm to 2500rpm rev range.
The diesel engine can be paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG unit. The 0-100km/h time for the manual is 11.9 seconds while the DSG-equipped car takes 12.5 seconds to cover the same sprint.
VW UK T-Cross product manager Claire Haynes said, “Adding a diesel engine option into the UK’s new T-Cross line-up is another way that our new compact SUV can offer more flexibility, choice and convenience.”
