Volkswagen of America has unveiled its all-new 2020 Atlas Cross Sport at the company’s Chattanooga, Tennessee, facility. The midsize SUV will launch with a choice of two powertrain variants.
Available with either a 280ps V6 or a 238ps four-cylinder turbocharged and direct-injection TSI engine, the Cross Sport will be built alongside the Atlas and Passat at the Volkswagen Chattanooga Assembly Plant.
Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and are available with the OEM’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. When equipped with the V6 Towing package, the six-cylinder engine has a 5,000 lb tow rating.
Production of the Cross Sport is the result of a US$340m investment by Volkswagen into the Chattanooga facility. The VW site expects to receive an US$800m investment for the production of electric vehicles in the future.
