German OEM Volkswagen has unveiled its latest Golf variant, the GTI TCR. Derived from the race car of the same name, the GTI TCR will generate a maximum power output of 290ps, a 45ps jump from the GTI Performance.
Behind VW’s new GTI TCR is a modified variant of the EA888 2-liter four-cylinder that powers the GTI Clubsport 40. Released in 2017, the Clubsport 40 was developed to celebrate 40 years of Volkswagen Golf GTI. To reach 290ps, the Clubsport unit has been given a new software management update and equipped with extra radiators.
Capable of speeds up to 260km/h, the Golf GTI TCR is fitted with the OEM’s 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox as well as a gasoline particulate filter. The street version will pass the 100km/h mark after just 5.6 seconds.
In addition to a powerplant upgrade, the latest Golf model’s performance modifications include a front-axle differential lock and perforated brake discs.
