Allison Transmission has announced that its 10-speed, fully automatic transmission will feature in the new Sierra heavy-duty truck. The 2020 Sierra will debut in February 2019.
The Allison-branded automatic transmission, manufactured by General Motors, has been developed to combine enhanced performance and fuel economy, greater operational flexibility, and improved driver comfort and control, with uptime and reliability.
Designed for high performance and low maintenance, the Allison 10-speed, coupled with GMC’s Duramax diesel engines, aims to generate greater power delivery.
“Trailering is the most important consideration for Sierra Heavy Duty customers and the new features and technologies, including the Allison fully automatic transmission, make it easier than ever to hitch a trailer and tow it confidently,” said Jaclyn McQuaid, GMC vehicle chief engineer, heavy-duty trucks.
“The all-new 10-speed transmission with closer gear spacing allows the engine to operate in an optimal range at all times with varying load and terrain conditions.”
