Audi has revealed that it is working with LG Chem and Samsung to produce batteries for its first battery-electric SUV, with a range of more than 500km.
The news that LG and Samsung will supply Audi from European-based factories confirms news that the German manufacturer is working to bring a large sports utility EV to market.
Audi’s head of R&D, Ulrich Hackenberg, used the company’s annual conference this year to tease some details of the new car. Audi is rumored to have set the performance bar at 500ps and 700Nm, with a battery capacity of 90kWh. One of the car’s three electric motors will be placed in the transmission, with the other two on the rear axle.
The new model is expected to be built on the same MLB platform as the new Q7, and will be called the Q6. The BEV will be previewed with the e-tron SUV concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA 2015) in September, with a view to bring a production car to market in 2018.
