The company says the new facility will help it to evaluate overseas market demand, obtain core EV technology, build on brand influence, and eventually provide support for its international layout.
The new R&D center will complement the work of other BAIC research units in Silicon Valley and Aachen, Germany, developing advanced technologies in motor drives, power electronics and intelligent control, and continuing to establish BAIC’s presence in North America.
BAIC EV general manager Zheng Gang said that the company has worldwide ambitions for its electric technology: “The strategic vision of BAIC EV is set not only on China, but also on the international stage of EVs. In the future, top electric drive systems are bound to support the intelligent and concrete development of our new control technologies.”
The company says that the facility will be given a certain amount of independence to ensure that it can develop advanced technologies to become a world-class research center of EV technology and products.
