US-based power management company Eaton has announced a new supercharger it says is the most capable and efficient it has ever produced.
The TVS2 is 25% lighter and more powerful than its predecessor, thanks to rotor changes that improve internal aerodynamics and efficiency, use of lighter materials and a smaller overall package.
Eaton says that the new TVS2 improves the ability of manufacturers to deliver a single boosted application, or it can be paired with other boosting technologies for improved engine performance.
Low speed airflow has been improved by more than 30% according to the supplier, which enables increased torque at low engine speeds. The new unit could help OEMs looking to downsize engines – Eaton says a 2-liter engine equipped with a compound boost system including a TVS2 supercharger could deliver greater than 480Nm of torque and 380PS.
Brian Contat, product director, boosting at Eaton’s vehicle group, said, “This latest innovation within our boosting portfolio delivers on the key areas that our customers have the most interest in, including efficiency, weight reduction, improved engine performance and the ability to better package supercharger devices within existing and future architectures.”
Eaton supplies superchargers to leading vehicle manufacturers throughout the world, including Audi, General Motors, Jaguar Land Rover and Volvo.
