Ricardo has held a ceremony to fire up its new prototype three-cylinder engine for the first time at its technical center in Shoreham on the south coast of the UK.
The new 3-cylinder 1.0 litre turbocharged direct injection gasoline engine prototype was partly developed over 11 months in China, the Czech Republic and Germany as well as in the UK. A team of resident engineers from Chinese manufacturer Changhe and representatives of the firm’s majority shareholder BAIC, were also present at the ceremony.
Ricardo Asia president Gary Tan said, “We were particularly pleased to be able to host the senior visitors from BAIC and Changhe at the ‘first fire’ event, which took place less than a year from the project start and within days of the final crucial component – the cylinder block – being delivered.
“We look forward to working with our colleagues at Changhe through to the start of production which is currently scheduled for the spring of next year.”
