UK engineering firm Ricardo has announced its return to rallying with a new 5-speed sequential transmission and AWD driveline for an as-yet-unannounced manufacturer.
The system will compete in the R5 class for 1.6-liter turbocharged four-wheel-drive cars, which forms part of the WRC-2 championship. The new system has been designed and developed at Ricardo’s Leamington facility in central England.
Performance products managing director at Ricardo, Mark Barge, said, “I am extremely pleased that we are able to announce this key milestone. While we have been working on this state-of-the-art project for three years, this will be the first support for rallying that we have been able to announce since our work on the Ford WRC Focus in 2010.”
