Lafer is promoting its wide range of automotive application coatings and surface treatments at Engine Expo 2016.
DLC Lafer is a carbon-based coating, which offers very low application temperature, a friction coefficient amongst the lowest of existing coatings, as well as an elevated H/E ratio and excellent resistance to wear and fatigue. Due to its extremely low friction coefficient it finds use in the most demanding applications in the racing and aeronautics sectors. According to Lafer this coating has ‘excellent’ anti-adherent properties, with Lafer continuing to state that ‘for this reason it is in fact often used as an optimal substitute for PTFE (Teflon) boasting more advantages: non-toxicity, the same friction coefficient, increased hardness, excellent adhesion’.
In order to achieve this effect, sometimes it is not enough to just limit the friction coefficient, but the incompatibility between the coating chemicals and those of the product being molded is necessary. DLC Lafer is available in specific applications for ABS, Polyethylene, PC and PET molded surfaces.
