Volkswagen boss Matthias Mueller is set to present a newly developed catalytic converter to EPA boss Gina McCarthy when they meet in Washington DC in the USA this week.
The German company has already presented proposals to bring its European models in line with legislation, but the stricter rules in the US have proven trickier to meet.
The new catalytic converter is set to be installed in the approximately 430,000 cars fitted with the EA189 diesel engine, according to German newspaper Bild am Sonntag.
Mueller has publicly apologized ahead of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, USA, this month, saying that VW had cheated customers, officials and the US public and that he was sorry for everything that had gone wrong at Volkswagen.
NAIAS 2016 takes place January 11-24, 2016, in Detroit, Michigan, USA.
